Greetings in this holiday season! I hope this message finds you, your families, and your work in a productive and prosperous time with much to be thankful for.
What an exciting time to be a member of the NISC! Over the past several months, the NISC Board of Directors has been active in establishing partnerships with organizations across the country to further the NISC’s mission and establish the NISC as a recognized leader in the advancement of incident management information sharing, shared situational awareness, and public safety communications interoperability. As a result of this work, the NISC is being recognized as a leader in the field by organizations such as the Central United States Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC), the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA), businesses such as ESRI and Intermedix, and federal agencies including DHS’s Science & Technology Directorate and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. With the explosion of technology and data, managing information can often be like trying to drink from a fire hose. You can be proud to know that the NISC is seen as one of the leading organizations in data refinement, standardization, sharing, and depiction.
Want to see the fruits of the NISC’s labor? Check out the NISC Member Portal where you can find cutting edge data sharing templates, web map templates, and other NISC tools. Several of the tools will be featured in an upcoming information sharing exercise that the NISC will be hosting in 2016. If you’ve misplaced your member portal username and password, NISC staff will be glad to help you reset your password – just click the “forgot password” link and a new temporary password will be sent to you.
Finally, I’m excited that the NISC board has voted to begin searching for an Executive Director. We are now receiving some high quality resumes and I encourage you to spread the word to any qualified candidates you may know. Check out the NISC careers page for qualifications, details, and deadlines. In addition, the NISC has been seeking new board members to fill open positions. Nominations ended on Wednesday, November 25, and the NISC Board will be voting soon on a final slate of candidates.
Be watching for more information regarding new Board Members and the hiring of our new Executive Director in the upcoming months. Thanks for all your hard work in your fields of service and for making the NISC a diverse, quality-driven, and thriving organization!
Sincerely,
Doug Eades – NISC Chair
